Did OKCupid STEAL This Guy’s Blog Post?
Did Christian Rudder pull a Mark Zuckerberg and steal this guys blog post idea? According to him, the answer is a very strong yes. The author of the “Brawg” claims that he statistically proved the type of women that men are looking for on dating sites. He says he made two female profiles with different photos to try and figure out the results on OKCupid.com. Included in the profiles was the admission that he was actually a guy and was just doing research for his blog and even included a link to it, but men seemed to completely ignore this and messaged the profiles anyway.
According to the blogger, both profiles were removed once the terms of service breach was realized. Next came the shady business. He says that his blog insights show the moderators of OKCupid made a couple visits to his profile immediately following, and after he sent OKCupid an apology for breaching their service contract and asked them if they were interested in sharing his research findings for their own blog, that they immediately banned his IP address, and just a few days later, posted findings almost exactly a match to his own.
So, did Christian Rudder and the OKCupid team steal his blog? I’m sure we’ll never know the real answer, but we have seen the OKCupid blog do something else that was a little sketchy when they removed the post titled “Why You Should Never Pay for a Dating Site” right after they werr purchased by the pay site Match.com. They aren’t really a stranger to altering their blog for business.
Thank you! Recently I Googled Brawg to see what kind of trouble it got itself into and it finds its way to a well written and thoughtful post! What a well organized, clean, and easy to navigate site. It’s a pleasure to see it published someplace with a tone of professionalism. Looking forward to adding this to useful sites to visit on the blog roll!
The indignation towards OK Cupid influenced the tone of the original piece subsided since writing it. Never heard back from OK Cupid and when Match.com bought them out, the original people who ripped off the blog must have left. During a server switch they forgot to stick my IP address back on the blacklist but since then no online dating masquerading as a woman occurred… yet.
