Rapper T.I. and his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, were arrested Wednesday night for making an illegal u-turn in LA which resulted in them getting arrested for possession of marijuana, methamphetamines, and ecstasy. Yikes, yikes, and yikes, huh?! According to TMZ, T.I. was already on probation (for trying to buy an automatic weapon at a gun show) after being in jail for 7 months. You’d think after an experience like that you’d cut back on the law-breaking, right?

Needless to say, this begs the question… would you stay with someone who had trouble with the law? Sure everyone has their share of parking tickets, but if you were dating someone who consistently broke the law (and got caught), would you stick by them? Would you marry them, or have children with them? Is love worth it?

1. Late night ocean adventures

If you’re fortunate enough to live near the ocean (or a lake, or a river, I guess?), you know that during the hottest days of summer it can be packed with kids, families, tourists, and (the worst) teenagers during the hot afternoon hours. However, around dusk the crowds start to dissipate, and it can provide a romantic (and much cooler) spot to spark some romance.

I don’t think much explanation is needed here. Freeze some cubes, pull back the covers, and get busy!

3. Embrace the heat

This may seem like backwards logic, but taking a hot yoga class together will invigorate your senses, cleanse your mind, lower stress and make the air outside seem cooler. Plus, studies have shown that practicing yoga heightens sensuality, intimacy and confidence in bed. And on top of that, men are visual creatures… watching a lady do a downward dog or dancer pose will definitely be a turn on. You may have a hard time even getting back to your apartment . The term “cougar” as we’ve discussed previously, generally implies a woman over 40 who tends to “prey” on much younger men. They’re in their sexual peaks, looking for men who can handle their burgeoning sexuality and also serve as “arm candy,” a position that, up until recently, was held for younger women and their much older companions. Demi Moore, a 40+ actress, was the poster child for this phenomenon, dating and eventually even marrying the much younger Ashton Kutcher.

As the term gained popularity and began inching its way into the mainstream, cougar themed events, cruises, TV shows, and dating sites all jumped on the train. However, the idea of the cougar-cub relationship always carried a playful vibe… nothing serious, very casual, and usually short term. So it makes sense that a recent study showed that among most mainstream dating profiles, women overwhelmingly stated that they were looking for men either their age or older. Similarly, men displayed what we’ve known for centuries: the majority of them wanted younger women.

These results, presented by noted psychology researcher at the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff, Michael Dunn, were not well received by the pro-cougar crowd. Many called it misogynistic and anti-cougar, claiming that there have been many studies in the past that showed older women were still feeling sexual enough to pursue relationships with younger men.

Needless to say, we’re torn. While we know it’s probably true that older women looking to settle down (which are much of what you find on dating sites) would probably skew towards the older end of the scale, we also agree with the pro-cougar crowd… it’s apparent that fun, casual relationships between younger men and older women are cropping up more and more as women become more empowered and men more progressive.

According to a recent report from NPR.org, the computer has created a bigger upset in the dating culture than even the invention of telephone. Recalling a recent study done by Stanford University’s Michael Rosenfeld shows that more people than ever are turning to online dating sites to find their mate, generally because we are more inclined to want to know details about people before we date them, as New York psychologist Nicole Adams says, ‘weed out the real crazy people, for lack of a better term.’

As we as a country grow increasingly more dependent on all things digital, it’s only appropriate that the rules of dating become more inclusive of technology as well. While we have tons of dating books discussing the etiquette that is acceptable in person and over the phone, there is the vast space called the Internet where rules just seem to go out the window. DatePro, though, is trying to stay on top of the most current trends, so here is our top 5 list of technological dealbreakers.

1) The Pocket Dial

Nothing ruins a great night like getting a post-drinks phone call from your date, eagerly picking it up, and then realizing the call was an accident, and they’re actually with their friends detailing every good (and bad) thing that happened during the date. Lock your phone, my friends.

2) Too much abbreviating

There is no way it’s that much faster for you to type 2mrrw, especially in the world of qwerty keyboards on phones. We’re all grown ups now and should act like it — and no, typing in full sentences and words isn’t stuffy, it’s grown up. Unless you’re trying to attract a Cyrus or a Bieber (let’s hope not, pedo), we should all be communicating like grown ups.

3) Over or underresponsiveness

Responding to text messages and phone calls should be done, as everything, in moderation. Sitting on your phone and responding within seconds (and then getting upset when they take a while) looks desperate and annoying. On the other hand, ignoring text messages all together can drive a person just to the brink of insane. So we’d say a five minute rule is fair.

4) Texting on a date

We are all attached to our phones these days, and being out of contact with people for a few hours seems almost impossible. However, at dinner, during a movie, and while driving (obviously) with your date, keep the phone away. Nothing shows your not listening like watching you with your eyes glued to your Blackberry.

5) Emoticonoholism

The occasional wink or smile can be sweet, sassy, sexy, and fun, but if you end every text with an obnoxious sideways face, you can bet the recipient is gonna get bored, fast. So save the tongue out Ps and super happy Ds for rare occasions. Trust us, you’ll thank us later.

The OKCupid blog is known for making charts and graphs somehow… interesting? And fun? Yes, it’s strange, but true. And their most recent blog post, called, “Don’t Be Ugly By Accident” discusses the interesting, odd ways that people judge photographs, as well as some statistics about peoples’ technology preferences. Our favorite? The stat showing that iPhone users have more sexual partners than other smartphone users!

According to the study, while Android users have an average of about 6 sexual partners, and Blackberry users about 8, iPhone users have 10 to 12 (depending on your gender) partners by age 30!

Many arguments are going around the internet about why this is, but one of the most prevailing ones is this: iPhone users’ sex lives, like their technology lives, are awesome… until something new comes along, and they’ve gotta get on that new thing, STAT.

And it doesn’t matter if that thing is the iPhone 7 or that hot new chick working at the Genius Bar .

Every time I think that there are absolutely no more possible niche dating sites left, something comes along and reminds me that the universe, and dating sites by association, are infinite. This one, however, might get more of a foothold than other dating sites — YouAndMeArePure.com, a site that connects virgins to other virgins, so that they don’t have to worry about meeting someone on a mainstream site and then having to awkwardly admit that they’ve never slept with anyone.

In theory, the members of the site could be open about their belief systems and reasons for remaining chaste until marriage, however, we see a few issues in the concept:

a) The site name is grammatically incorrect.

b) Since virginity tests happen to be illegal in most countries, nothing prevents wolves (or cougars) in sheep’s clothing from infiltrating the herd.

c) They have a SecondLife “Virgin Park,” which if you ask us, is basically some combination of a Dateline NBC special and a creepy 1 AM Cinemax soft core flick.

A couple days ago, reader Hailey read “Who gets to keep the friends?” and asked the question… what happens when one of your friends starts dating your ex? How do you handle it? And if you’re the friend in the situation, is it ever okay to date your friends’ ex?

Let’s start at the end and work our way up:

Is it okay to date a friend’s ex?

Answer: No answer.

As much as we’d like to say, no! Never! You may never date a friend’s ex! The honest truth is that (the old adage is true) the heart wants what the heart wants.Or should we say, the brain wants what the brain wants.

However, though the brain is an organ, when it comes to emotions, it is unlike the others, in that you do have some control over it. For the sake of your friendship, we’d say that there are 6 billion people on the planet, maybe you should avoid someone who’s seen your friend naked.

So, we’d say there are many factors determining whether or not it’s okay. How close are you with your friend? How long has it been since the break up? Was the break up amicable? All of these things should be taken into consideration before indulging in a fling (or relationship) with a friend’s ex.

How should you handle a friend starting to date your ex?

Answer: With grace.

While your initial reaction may be to fly off the handle and call your friend a string of expletives, take a step back, take a deep breath, and look at it from a less-biased point of view: we are living in a perpetual coincidence.

The fact that you two dated: coincidence.

The fact that you and your friend met? Coincidence.

Had one of those events never happened, your friend and your ex dating wouldn’t have been a drop in the bucket. Of course, if you see the two of them at a romantic dinner 2 days after the Big Event, you’ve got every right to be hurt, confused, and angry. However, if your friend and your ex happen to reunite and fall for each other, hey…. statute of limitations. There’s really nothing you can do, so you might as well move on and be happy for them. “Be the bigger man,” “don’t cry over spilt milk,” etc. etc. etc.
