Google+ For Dating

Have you heard about Google+? It’s a new social network by the internet giant Google that is claiming to be comparable to Facebook. So, naturally, it’s important to look at the various ways that Facebook touches our lives and compare Google+’s version of those. That’s where we of course ask about online dating.
MediaPost Publications discussed that along with connecting with old friends and keeping up with relatives, Facebook acts as a dating site without explicitly saying so:
Facebook recommends itself for romantic trolling for a number of reasons: it’s free; you can see endless numbers of profiles, and the pool of potential partners for both genders is huge; you can check out photos, interests and other qualities that may be important in a prospective partner (perspective on life, spelling ability); and you can trace connections through mutual friends and acquaintances, which presumably confers some kind of character recommendation, and also gives you something to talk about as an icebreaker. I think Facebook’s online dating functionality is important even for people who are in relationships or don’t think of themselves as “on the market”: Facebook is always there as a fallback if things in their current relationship turn sour, or they decide to get back into dating.
It’s true whether we want to believe it or not – there is a reason that Facebook is being cited in nearly 20% divorce proceedings and that one of the most closely followed parts of peoples profiles are their “relationship statuses”. So, how will Google+ stack up with its new system? Well, as of now, terribly, except maybe for in the gale male community. According to Google Analytics, 88% of Google+ users are male, 10% are female, and 2% list themselves as “other.” With a ratio like that, it looks like there won’t be much of a dating aspect to Google+ any time soon.
What do you think? Will Google+ be able to enter the online dating world? Or has Facebook made itself the king already?
