Is NameYourPrice Basically Prostitution?
Short answer: YES.
Long answer: Technically, no, but NameYourPrice.com, created by the founder of SeekingArrangement.com, a site not unlike SugarDaddie.com, could very well be seen as a form of prostitution considering its premise as “the Ebay of dating.”
According to the founder, Brandon Wade, the system is simple: “When you see a hot single you want to date, just make an offer and buy the first date,” which, if anything, certainly sounds like an escort service. The site is made up of two classes of people, called “The Generous” and “The Attractive.” Attractive members create profiles like any other dating site, save for one minor detail, you must list the lowest price you’d go on a date for. Sounds almost like when a hooker tells you her base price for a night, doesn’t it? Just a little?
To answer that question you have to head the FAQ, where the first question asks that very question, to which Wade answers “This is all about paying for the FIRST DATE! There is absolutely no sex involved, and except perhaps the chance of sex at some point in the future if you are able to successfully charm and seduce. But isn’t that what every first date is about?”
Considering many women on the site are likely only there to make a profit and not so much looking for love, we’re still gonna lean towards our original opinion, that this site is really crossing a fine line between a silly dating principle and straight up prostitution.
As for the founder’s opinion that he is basically “the Adam Smith of online dating,” well, we respectfully disagree.
