JDate Slaps Zoosk, OkCupid, More With Patent Lawsuit

JDate, the biggest Jewish dating site currently online, and their parent company Spark Networks are suing Zoosk, OKCupid, and Chinese-American dating site 2RedBeans over using what they claim is their patented “secret admirer” system.
According to JDate, the companies have all infringed on the company’s feature which matches members based on similar interests and mutual attraction, or what they call “Method and Apparatus for Detection Of Reciprocal Interests or Feelings And Subsequent Notification.” OkCupid’s QuickMatch, Zoosk’s Scientific Matching Service, and 2RedBean’s Secret Admire function are all called into question as potentially infringing on JDate’s patent, and are being asked to pay for said infringement.
We’d like to know why JDate has just decided to proceed with legal action now, as Zoosk and OKCupid especially have been using the system for quite some time. TechCrunch tried to get statements from the companies but only 2RedBeans replied, calling the suit a David and Goliath situation and saying their own matching system was much different.
