JDate States the Obvious

Fish can’t survive outside of water. Bread goes bad eventually. It’s a good idea to brush your teeth. All obvious, right? How about this: JDate claims they are the leader in starting Jewish marriages today. Yes, that’s right – one of the only specifically Jewish-geared dating sites is the LEADER in forging Jewish marriages. Absolutely amazing.

According to Jezebel, JDate has released a study showing that they are the best site to go to for a person of the Jewish faith looking for love with someone who shared their beliefs. From the source:

According to the survey, which a spokesperson for JDate told me was conducted on a sample of 948 now-married Jewish internet users, 52% of Jewish married couples who met online met on JDate (compared to 17% on Match and 10% on eHarmony). Sixty-three percent of the online dates the users went on were set up through JDate. And 76% of Jewish online daters used JDate at some point, even if they didn’t find a spouse on it.

Of course even beyond the obvious attraction, JDate is an extremely well-maintained site, and caters to the needs of its users very well. But we believe it says more for the state of online dating than anything else. If a niche site like JDate can succeed, then perhaps smaller, more intimate sites will flourish in this industry that we’ve previously called “flooded” with cookie-cutter Match.com look-a-likes. Instead of sifting through millions of members who people will lack a common bond with, maybe smaller sites will provide people an easier, is not less varied group of singles to choose from.

The question is, is it only religion that this will work for? Or are people so dedicated to fitness, or books, or dogs, that a niche site of that type could have the same success as JDate?

What do you think? Will smaller, more specific dating sites begin to flourish? Or will the big, broad dating sites always be in control?
