We all remember where we were when a 25-year-old Ashton and 40-year-old Demi first got together… well, we all remember how we felt then, at least. Probably a mix of “you go girl!” and “really?!” and “PUBLICITY STUUUUNT!” However, as their relationship progressed, we all started to think, huh, maybe they really do like each other. And then they got married, and then they got boring, and then we all forgot about them.

Fast forward six years, and reports surfaced that on the eve of their sixth wedding anniversary, Ashton had a fling with a 22-year-old woman in Las Vegas named Sara Leal. Kutcher denied the incident, but rumors of a split began swirling, ending with an announcement by Demi Moore yesterday that indeed, the two would divorce.

The 49-year-old Moore says she’s ending her marriage “with great sadness and a heavy heart.”

Demi says, “as a woman, a mother, and a wife, certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life.”

The tone of the announcement seems to confirm that infidelity was indeed the cause of the split, although of course we can’t be sure until she gets interviewed by Vogue or something in the coming months. We at DatePro are left wondering if the split solidifies the idea that cougar/cub relationships are better left as casual, fun flings, and not attempts at anything long term, or if, as always, this is one case that not be called the rule.

After a whopping 72 hours of marriage, reality starlet Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from her NFL beau, Kris Humphries. According to People, she is citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their quick split, however we believe it may have something to do with the fact that putting your wedding on TV in front of millions of viewers and banking upwards of $20 million of of it might not be the ROCK SOLID BONDING material that marriages should be based on.

From People magazine:

“I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision,” she says in a statement to E!, which airs her reality shows. “I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”

“Sometimes things don’t work out as planned”?!?!??!?!?! Uf. If the issues in a marriage are so terrible that you don’t work on them longer than THE FIRST TWO MONTHS YOU ARE MARRIED, I can’t imagine that you’d “REMAIN FRIENDS.” Right?

Despite their 17 year age difference, a source says that the couple are a “perfect pair,” and that Paul’s children love her as well.

It’s always surprising to me when a person who has gone through an extraordinarily difficult split ends up getting married again. Sure, the problem might be that you two weren’t meant for each other, but it also shines a spotlight on the underlying issues in marriage as an institution. Paul lost an unheard of $50 million dollars in his divorce with Heather Mills, and yet has decided to jump into another with no prenup?! YIKES.

Another one bites the dust, as they say.

We just learned from the bloggers at BCU (the blog for the dating site OnlineBootyCall.com) that skateboarder and entrepreneur Tony Hawk is getting divorced. For the third time. Not only that, but the whole story is just one big mess:

“Tony Hawk married Cindy in 1990. They have one son. Divorced in 1993, because Tony had begun seeing Erin, THE NANNY. They married in 1996, and had two sons together but then got divorced in 2003 because Tony decided to get together with his PUBLICIST Lhotse. They got married in 2006 and had a daughter BUT are now getting divorced because Lhotse caught Tony with Cathy, THE WIFE OF HIS BEST FRIEND AND LONGTIME BUSINESS PARTNER MATT GOODMAN.”

Sad, isn’t it? Not only that another marriage is going down the drain and that ANOTHER child is about to be a part of a broken home, but that there are women in the world with such delusions of grandeur, such pathetic self-esteem, that they would still stay with a guy who is so obviously a piece of scum. I’m no man-hater and definitely not a women hater, but all parties in this situation are GUILTY.

In what could possibly be one of the quickest and most publicized D-list divorces ever, Frasier star Kelsey Grammer has finalized his divorce with his reality-show villain of a wife Camille. According to TMZ, the divorce was finalized just moments ago, just in time for Kelsey to brush off his tuxedo for his marriage to his new girlfriend Kayte Walsh, who at 29 is two decades younger than her husband to be. The couple have been engaged for months and are even expecting a child together, so its unsurprising that in the divorce settlement Camille sought out a cool $2.3 million to protect against any future spouses.

Camille’s character on the show “real Housewives of Beverly Hills,”  has been shown as superficial, vindictive, and perhaps even a little… crazy? but we still feel for the mother of two as she watches her husband start a new life with a woman half her age. We wish both parties luck and hope the split will be as amicable as possible!

So our question – is texting (or more specifically) sexting, the downfall of long-term relationships? With the ease of carrying on racy relationships, with out any real physical contact, and with the ability to permanently strike everything said from the record, are people more likely to cheat?

We believe the answer is a little yes, and a little no. Yes, technology has made it simpler and easier to do just about everything – cheating included. But can we blame the ease and relative discretion of the internet and text messaging? No. People make decisions for themselves. And whether the cheating is bringing someone back from a bar or just keeping communication in stealth mode, cheating would happen.

When you’re young (I’m thinking, 15 or 16) and you start dating, it’s quite possibly one of the most exciting times of your life. Not only do you fall in love at the drop of a hat, but you often forget all about the very real potential that this person, your first love, isn’t your only love.

However, resisting the desire to up and get married the second you think you’re in love is the smartest thing you can do. A recent article in The Daily Beast by Anneli Rufus discusses many statistics about the likelihood of divorce, and what is one of the leading causes of divorce? Marrying too young. She says in the article,

If you’re a woman who got married before the age of eighteen, your marriage faces a 48 percent likelihood of divorce within ten years.

Age matters. Study after study shows that the younger the married couple, the riskier the bond. The risk drops to 40 percent for women who married at age eighteen or nineteen, drops further to 29 percent for women who married at age 20 to 24, and drops even further to 24 percent for women who married at age 25 or older.

So slow it down, young ones. This first intense love you’re feeling may feel great, but trust us when we say it won’t be the last!

Let’s be honest, people of 2010. Facebook is good for like, 3 things. Connecting with old friends, admiring/hating on people via their photo albums, and keeping an eye on your exes. Although we may pretend to love Facebook as a social networking tool, in general, it’s good for one thing — checkin’ out other peeps.

Perhaps an acquaintance from a party friends you, and you realize they’re actually way cuter than you remember. Or an ex drops you a message and you notice WOW, they’ve gotten quite a bit cuter these days.

Either way, being in a relationship often doesn’t stop our flirting. The only difference between flirting at a bar versus flirting online is that often your transgressions are logged and saved and can be brought up later. Which is why it’s no surprise that Facebook infidelity has been listed in 1 in 5 divorce proceedings as evidence of an affair or just over-the-line flirting.

From sexual chats, to inappropriate private messages to one woman even claiming she found out her husband was divorcing her via Facebook, it seems that Facebook is the new culprit behind American divorce cases.

What to do? If you’re married, stop looking for trouble. If you’re dating, log out of your account! And if you’re single — stay that way; this world is getting too hard to be married in.

Pro football star Tiki Barber is the most recent American celebrity to be caught with his pants down- this time while his wife was 8 months pregnant with twins. Rumors also say that although the two had an “agreement,” Tiki’s wife Ginny has decided to file for divorce immediately.

While we obviously don’t condone the cheating that seems to be spreading  through the celebrity male population like wildfire, the rampant reports do prove someone else to have blame… the gossip media. Our unwavering attention to all things celebrity these days has made it almost a game to see who we can catch next.

When a private matter as sad and disheartening for relationships as cheating is occurring, we as a public should turn an uninterested eye to it. Perhaps some day in the future, couples, no matter how high-profile, will be able to deal with their demons in private, instead of in front of the entire nation.

After numerous rumors that Oscar winner Sandra Bullock and her husband were having marital problems, reports have surfaced that he has been having an affair for quite some time with a tattoo model named “Bombshell McGee.”

Just days after the award show where she tearfully smiled at her husband from the podium, it’s disturbingly sad to see such a private matter of infidelity go so public.

Strangely, Bullock isn’t the first woman to be publicly cheated on after winning an Oscar. From Susan Sarandon to Reese Witherspoon and Kate Winslet, it seem that some less-successful husbands resort to cheating to retain the manliness they feel they’ve lost. Pretty pathetic, don’t you think?
