Talk about role reversal! According to the New York Post, young women in New York City are out-earning men in their demographic, and have no problem spending the extra cash on their dates!

Based on US Census data, single women in their twenties in New York City make on average 17% more income than their male counterparts. More surprisingly, though, is that they don’t mind shelling out the cash for dates, and a guy who makes less than her isn’t necessarily an instant turn-off, assuming he’s actively looking to change that. A study conducted called Single In America found that “in New York, 95 percent of people [surveyed] want someone they can confide in, someone they can trust and someone that respects them — those are all now far more important than finances.”

With women more in control over their personal lives as well as their relationships, we wonder if the dating and courtship rules will change! As one women cited in the article says, “I don’t need his money, and I can build my own shelves.” We like her style!

I’d like to think that the majority of women these days are a decent balance between traditional and feminist. For example, although I enjoy being taken out on dates occasionally, for the most part I like going Dutch and feel uncomfortable when guys are too “White Knight”-ish… I don’t need every chair pulled out and CERTAINLY don’t need you to order for me at a restaurant. And although the amount of women who align themselves as feminists continues to grow as time goes on, I think it’s safe to assume that for the most part, we like to stay out of the extremes.

A recent study by the London School of Economics, however, seems to show that as a whole, women might actually fall closer to the traditional patriarchal views than they are letting on. According to Dr Catherine Hakim, more women would prefer to “marry up” than even in the 1940s. Although women have been fighting for gender equality in the workplace for 40 years, Dr. Hakim says marrying a more financially secure man “has lost none of its attractions.”

It seems as though women’s desire to gain the same respect and compensation in the workplace as men is still not as powerful as her biological need to raise and care for her children. Other than the extreme elite and highly educated, the idea of “symmetrical family roles”, where both parents take an equal role in both earning income and raising children, is not ideal.

Does that mean feminism has hit its peak? Are we slowly taking the downward slope back into the traditional, patriarchal society of the 1950s? What do you think?

Up until recently, the idea of marital infidelity was almost solely a husband issue — women were seen as the poor victims, making dinner, holding the baby, and crying while her husband galavanted about with his secretary, a neighbor, or even his wife’s friend. However, as women are now out of the house as much (if not more) than men, and are no longer held to some Virgin Mary standard, cheating by wives is far more prevalent.

I don’t know the science on it, but I’m pretty sure, based on the basic map of the male brain, that guys generally cheat because they listened to the wrong head’s signals, if you know what I mean. That might have come out in a harsh, anti-male-sentiment type way, but I mean it in the most genuine of ways: a lapse in judgement, clouded by alcohol or an overly acting burst of testosterone and POOF your dude’s in bed with some fairly average looking chick he met in a dark bar. And while I’m not saying women have a more legitimate reason to cheat, I’m pretty sure we have enough scientific evidence to say that women’s emotions tend to rule over their sexual impulses.

Why do women cheat? An article on ModernGhana sums up to the top six (pretty self-explanatory) reasons:

1. Familiarity has bred indifference

2. You’re leading parallel lives

3. The passion has fizzled

4. The fantasy has fizzled

5. Your ego needs a boost

6. It’s payback time

Furthermore, the article says that 55% of women and 60% of men are likely to cheat… pretty high for both sexes, don’t you think?

Oh men. So strong and hard on the outside, and yet so soft and emotional on the inside, like a some sort of caramel filled candy bar man. Such is the case is England this past week, when the English World Cup team was beat in a disastrous 4 : 1 loss to Germany. Men all across the country bowed their heads and teared up a little, and then went straight to the computer and signed up for online dating sites.

Singles365.com reported that traffic to their site exploded by almost 200% in the days following England’s loss and claim that within minutes of the final whistle, visitors began pouring in at alarming rates. Just picturing red-eyed, sniffling soccer fans sitting at their computer makes me giggle. Katie Mowe, of Singles365, said “Our message to all the single ladies out there who are looking for a date is strike whilst the iron is hot – the football season will be start again in less than two months!”

Which lead me to this thought…

Considering during the football season men generally ignore women (don’t deny it, all women know this), and a good game of Madden generally renders male ears useless, and golf games are strictly lady-less, I sometimes believe that a hearty sports addiction actually stifles the sexual desire hormone. I am no scientist, but seriously, guys, answer the question. If you had to choose sports of sex… what would you choose?

Any female who is reading this would denounce me for writing this article, but a Date Pro’s gotta do what a Date Pro’s gotta do.

Have you ever met a girl who, despite your obvious non-connection, still swears you two are made to be? Urban Dictionary lists approximately 300 definitions of the term “Player.” Of those, about 4 say that it can be a man or a woman. In general, the definition says ” a guy who is sustaining supposedly exclusive relationships with multiple girls simultaneously.”

However, switch the two genders and to most, the word being defined would be “whore.”

The term player, while occasionally used in a negative sense, is often considered impressive.
