Woman Sues Man She Met on eHarmony for Giving Her Herpes

Oh look! It’s another case of a dating site’s name being dragged into the dirt by a criminal case that probably has nothing to do with the quality of the site!

Although not quite as damaging as the rape case against Match.com last year, this story will likely turn people off from using dating sites, though the situation could have easily happened in any other scenario. According to OregonLive, a Portland woman recently sued a man she met on eHarmony, because he allegedly gave her herpes during their first sexual encounter. The plaintiff claims that the older gentleman she met on the site knowingly gave her the STD, and did not tell her until after they had sex. Despite the woman asking her date to wear a condom, he opted not to, and within 11 days of the encounter the woman suffered from her first genital herpes outbreak.

Although the defense claims that the dentist didn’t know he was contagious, and she should have forced him to wear a condom, and that dating poses risks and she should have been an adult, the prosecutors were able to convince the jury that the ex-dentist’s poor judgment caused the woman undue suffereing, and awarded her a whopping $900,000.

While we agree that the man was at least stupid and at most, criminal, we’re not sure if a sum of $900,000 is the best way to repay his damages.

What do you think? Is the man a criminal who deserves to pay almost a million dollars in damages? Or is the woman partially at fault for not keeping herself safe? Let us know in the comments!

  1. Yeah, He should pay.I received herpes from a upper class military soldier and his excuse was I didn’t know what it was. Said, he had sores on and off for years. We didn’t have sex for the first 3 months of the relationship and he didn’t tell me till 2 years later when he had another outbreak then I went to the doctor, I got it! Men and women both need to pay for this. Don’t trust anyone. All ways use protection. They say 1 out of 5 have a STD. I’m not with my guy any more after 3 years and think about taking legal action.
